Chinese New Year Cake involves peeling and grating long white root veg, and steaming a bunch of memories with optional jokes in a big silver steamer while the mollusc dimension provides sound of wandering nostalgia and the blossoming of hope for the future. I'll tell you something... You can hear voices of my mum and my aunt making new year cake in the kitchen while I improvised. At first it was an irritating ingredient but I decided to carry on anyway.

Poignant melodies, luminous harmonies with jarring disruptions, these DIY recordings are a breathing diary of my life, and includes actual interruptions such as voices, footsteps of bears, plus a few scruffy notes.

There was something special about those evenings, the strange journeys to imaginary places, (each track has its own illustrative portal).. and I left the ideas as they are. They haven't even been reworked since then, however I did take them to The Sound Mechanic for a gentle polish. I hope you enjoy their strange luminous shine.
